Dems Support Community 5k

When the Hawthorne Domestic Violence Response Team, together with the Auxiliary Police, were looking for volunteers to help support the Hawthorne 5k charity run, the Democratic Club sprang into action.

4th Ward Council Candidate Shyanne Douma (right) joined with over 20 club members to support the community effort, which drew over 200 runners of all ages from Hawthorne and surrounding communities.

On the morning of the race, two teams of club members staffed the water stations at mile markers 1 and 2 to provide much needed hydration for the runners.

The Dems set up the tables, supplied the water, and cheered on the runners – including our very own Jeff Gardner (left) – as they made their way around town.

Our thanks go out to all the volunteers who helped make this event a great success. It was great getting together and volunteering for the community. Special thanks go to Joe Osborne for planning the project, and working with the race organizers to bring it all together – Thanks Joe!
