Meet Our Democratic Candidates
Michael Lawrence, 2nd Ward Council Candidate
Michael Lawrence is running for council in Hawthorne’s 2nd Ward. A lifelong resident of Hawthorne, Mike wants to give back to the community that’s given him so much.
Mike has worked in the Commissioner’s Office at the North Jersey Water District supply Commission since 2001, and has first-hand knowledge of how the way we live affects our environment. He wants this knowledge to benefit the residents of Hawthorne and the Second Ward.
He is concerned with flooding issues in the borough, especially on Wagaraw Road and Washington Avenue in the Second Ward. He opposes overdevelopment because of the environmental issues it presents, as well as the strain it puts on our municipal budget.
Another priority for Mike is the revitalization of our downtown shopping center, which is the heart of Hawthorne. “I’m glad to see construction at the corner of Diamond Bridge and Lafayette Avenues, but there’s a lot more than can be done to make Diamond Bridge attractive to shoppers and diners,” Mike said.
Mike and his wife, Farah, reside at 93 Washington Avenue. He is a 1989 graduate of Hawthorne High School, and is a longtime member of the Hawthorne Democratic Unit and the John A. Girgenti Civic Association.
