Meet Our Democratic Candidates

Councilman Joe Wojtecki, 1st Ward

Joe WojteckiJoseph Wojtecki is the First Ward Councilman on Hawthorne’s Borough Council who frequently serves as watchdog for the entire borough. Whether the issue is controlling the borough’s spending, protecting our parks, or improving recreation opportunities, Wojtecki has served the Council with one goal in mind – the betterment of Hawthorne.

In his day job, as Director of Food and Nutrition within the Saint Barnabas Healthcare System, Wojtecki has overall responsibility for food service operations, overseeing a $1.3 million dollar budget with a staff of over 30 employees. He knows how to manage a budget, and keep the customers happy.

Wojtecki is an extremely active volunteer throughout the borough. He serves as a Lieutenant with the Hawthorne Volunteer Fire Department, having trained as an Emergency Medical Technician/CPR at Bergen Police and Fire Academy. He is also a member of the Washington School PTO, a Coach for Hawthorne Traveling Soccer Division 5, and a parishioner at St. Anthony’s Church.

Wojtecki is a graduate of Glen Rock High School. After earning a diploma in Culinary Arts from the Bergen County Vocational Technical School, he went on to study at the Culinary Institute of America, where he received an Associate Degree in Occupational Studies in Culinary Arts. An accomplished executive chef, Wojtecki and his wife, Stacy, live on Elberon Ave. with their three children.
